In Bad News Baseball action tonight, Boston continued its winning ways with a 9-0 shutout of Oakland to drop its Magic Number for clinching the championship down to just two games.
Boston had the home run ball working, clubbing five homers in the win. First baseman Duncan hit three of the round-trippers, helping his team to an early two-run lead. Four runs in the third inning put the game out of reach, and three more were added in the eighth. Eight of Boston’s ten hits were for extra bases.
Oakland failed to score against three Boston pitchers. Starter Chuck went six innings for the win, allowing only four hits. Long reliever Dan and setup pitcher Norman combined for the final three innings, keeping Oakland off of the scoreboard.
Boston hasn’t named a starter for its next game, though clubhouse sources have indicated that Gerald will get the nod, leaving ace pitcher Frank to work the potential championship game.
